The Bear's Den - The Outside Circle Gaining National Attention

CBC Books annual Battle of the Books recently announced The Outside Circle as one of 15 finalists for the Canada Reads competition.

The first novel by NCSA’s own Dr. Patti LaBoucane-Benson, The Outside Circle has made CBC Books prestigious Canada Reads longlist . This years theme is Starting Over, stories about transformation and second chances, stories of migrants, immigrants and others who are choosing – or forced – to make major changes in their lives.

Update – January 20, 2016

On January 20, 2016, Canada Reads selected the top 5 books out of the 15 finalists and unfortunately, The Outside Circle was not selected, however, the Top 15 is a great accomplishment in itself. Illustrated by 2014 NCSA Community Service Award recipient Kelly Mellings of Pulp Studios, The Outside Circle is set in the Stan Daniels Healing Centre and is a story about Canada’s colonial history and healing Aboriginal men.
