The Bear's Den - New Money Management Publications from BearPaw

The BearPaw Legal Education and Resource Centre will mail FREE legal education publications to you for use in your programs, classrooms and community. We have an extensive library of resources, ranging from Child and Family Services information to our latest releases on money management.

Two new publications are available today:

1. Payday Loans in Alberta

Payday loans are short-term loans of $1500 or less granted by a bank or other lender. This publication will guide you through the laws that apply to payday loans in Alberta, including those that protect the consumer. It will also discuss what might happen if you cannot pay your payday loan, including consumer rights when dealing with debt collection.

This publication will also provide the reader with tools to deal with debt, including information on debt repayment agencies, credit counselling, and bankruptcy.

2. What You Need to Know About Deferred Payment Plans in Alberta

Deferred payment plans happen when an agreement is made for a debt to go unpaid for a specific period of time. This publication will inform you about what a deferred payment plan is, including different types such as rent-to-own and lease-to-own services, and the laws that apply to them in Alberta. It will also inform you about the real cost of deferred payment plans, including hidden costs.
